Born in Lahore, De Jay spent his formative years moving across environments before settling for much of his upbringing in Auckland, New Zealand, particularly around Mt Roskill and Mt Eden. Growing up within these contrasting spaces—socially, culturally, and emotionally—shaped a worldview rooted in observation, adaptability, and introspection. These early transitions became the foundation of his artistic language. Rather than anchoring his work in personal exposition, De Jay allows experience itself to speak. His writing and music reflect periods of instability, ambition, pressure, and self-questioning—balanced by long stretches of reflection and internal recalibration. These chapters formed an introspective creative approach where expression is not performance, but record. He describes his creative awakening as emerging only after enduring internal conflict: “When the storm finally settles, you find answers you never knew you were searching for.” This philosophy—clarity through endurance—runs through much of his work.
